"Stack"
Stachelski - Chief Flight Instructor
ATP SEL/MEL, CFI, CFII, MEI
Prior to
instructing at BEA, Stack served 20 years in the US Air Force
and was employed in the civilian community for 10 years. He received his BS
degree in Psychology from the US Air Force Academy in 1972 and Masters Degrees
in Human Resources and Management from Webster College in 1979. He earned his
pilot wings in August 1973 at Moody AFB, GA and was assigned to the 21st
Tactical Airlift Squadron, Clark Air Base, Republic of the Philippines. He
held positions all over the world, and was assigned to various duties as a
Tactics Officer, Flight Simulator Instructor/Evaluator, Select Lead Airdrop
Pilot, and 39th Tactical Airlift Squadron Assistant Chief of
Standardization/Evaluation. In April 1982, he was assigned to the Department
of Defense Space Shuttle Support Office at Patrick AFB, FL. As a Manned Space
Flight Operations Officer, he was instrumental in the developing, testing and
implementing astronaut rescue and recovery procedures used worldwide by DOD
forces. Between 1988 and 1992 he flew flight test missions on C130 and KC135
aircraft. In 1992, Stack retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He is married to the former Joan Damon from Summit, NJ and has three sons:
David, Scott and Mark.
Ed Murray -
Flight Instructor
ATP SEL/MEL, CFI, CFII, MEI
Ed
Murray has over 31 years of experience in the aviation industry and holds an
Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate and is a Certified Flight Instructor
(CFI) for airplane single and multi-engine and Instrument-Airplane. With over
6,000 flight hours of experience in over 40 different makes and models of
airplanes, Ed has managed a military flight club and oversaw the approval of
and served as Chief Flight Instructor of a Part 141 Approved Flight School.
Serving in the capacity of an Aviation Safety Counselor for the Birmingham
Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) for over 18 years, Ed has authored and
published a number of aviation safety articles.
Brian Cross
- Flight instructor
CFI, CFII, MEI
Proof
that an old dog can learn new tricks, Brian decided to make a career change
at the age of 33. After 10 years in the
appliance business, Brian took a job as a lineman for an FBO at Birmingham
International Airport and began flying lessons there in early 2003. From
there he went on to manage two different flight schools including BEA Flight School. When managing got in the way of flying, Brian opted
for ATP's (Airline Transport Professionals) 'Career Pilot Program' where he
earned his Instrument Rating, Single and Multi-Engine Commercial
Certificate, and Certified Flight Instructor Certificate for Single
and Multi-Engine with Instrument rating. Brian and Kasy live 5 miles from
the end of Runway 5 at Bessemer with their two cats, Butterbean and
Gizmo.
Brandon Reed
- Flight Instructor
CFI, CFII, MEI
Brandon
currently resides near Chelsea, Alabama with his wife Stacy, who encouraged
him to pursue his lifelong dream of flying. He did his first solo in Sept.
2005 at the age of 33 and earned his private pilot certificate by that
December. He enrolled in ATP’s (Airline Transport Professionals) Career pilot
program and successfully completed it earning his Private Multi, Instrument,
Single and Multi commercial, along with his CFI, CFII, and MEI instructor
ratings. Prior to life as a pilot he had worked for over 12 years in the
social work field, specifically behavioral healthcare and consulting. He was
awarded the “live the dream” award from the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce for
his role in their PEP Youth Advisory Council. Brandon spent 2 years working
with local businesses doing corporate team building retreats. Brandon’s first
experiences with flying were right here at BEA in Bessemer.
